Production Spotlight: 2016 Telly Award July 05, 2017
We're excited to announce that a video we completed recently won a Telly Award! To celebrate, we’ll dive a little deeper into the project with Pyramide Productions Producer, Aaron Bollinger and Art Director, Tanem Davidson.
The Telly Awards were founded in the 1970s to honor "the best in TV and Cable, Digital and Streaming, and Non-Broadcast Productions." Every year, they receive 13,000+ submissions from all over the country and world.
Our winning video was completed for Microsoft’s World Wide Public Sector (WWPC) Team. We submitted it because we thought it was really innovative for the brand. Microsoft’s art design is simply stylized and works within a simple color palette. “We expanded the colors into a tertiary menu where the main colors were used for the characters, secondary colors were used for things they interact with, and tertiary colors were used for backgrounds,” explains Tanem, “but I think the video also stood out because we were allowed to step slightly outside the Microsoft standard of animation” while still creating a look that was unmistakably Microsoft.
We also did a lot with camera movement in this video. We used spatial shifts to fly in and out of objects to create more movement and dynamism within the animation. “How can we get from one scene to the next? How do we make that camera movement make sense in the story?” were two questions Aaron kept top of mind throughout the process.
